Africa. Travel here is as different from north to south as it is east to west. From Casablanca to Cape Town, Africa offers some of the greatest secrets and travellers' treasures to be found anywhere on earth. The inhabitants, both human and otherwise are no less diverse. Africa is home to modern cities and nomadic villages alike. Whether you're after a peaceful sunrise while on an Africa safari, a camel trek with Berber tribesmen, or a photo op with mountain gorillas, Africa will touch you deeply and beckon you to return again and again.

	Trying to summarize one of the world's largest countries, longest histories and largest populations is almost as  intimidating as travelling there. In a way, China is its own world. The cities - many could be countries in their own right - run the gamut. From western-facing Hong Kong to historical Beijing and futuristic Shanghai, they can be enchanting, bewildering and ghastly in equal measure. The countryside oozes millennia of history, as much through Great Wall-size monuments and fairy tale landscapes as through a daily village life, suspended somewhere between the middle ages and an uncertain future. All this is China and more: the future before it arrives, shaded by a past with no end.

High in the Arctic, this island within the Norwegian Svalbard archipelago is ensnared in ice during much of the year. However, as summer approaches, the ice gives way to scenic fjords and stunning scenery frequented by the world's largest land carnivore - the polar bear!

The world champions of hedonism were no doubt aided by a lush land and steamy climate, but still there is something different about Brazilians. For one, they are the most diverse country in Latin America, not to mention the continent's only former Portuguese colony. One of the largest countries in the world, Brazil certainly has plenty to see- the Amazon and Iguazu falls come to mind-but more than anything it's the Brazilian passion for life, epitomised in Rio's Carnival celebrations, that will make you fall in love and want to return again.

An eco-tourist's dream, Costa Rica has become synonymous with all an unspoiled tropical paradise can be. Rarely does reality measure up to hype, but Costa Rica certainly comes close. The country's quiet history as a backwater free of colonial excesses has today become a boon, and Costa Rica has cashed in on its purity. And not without merit: blessed with beaches and biodiversity to spare, this is a verdant land of misty volcanoes, roaring rivers and screeching jungles teeming with exotic fauna. Throw in the friendly, educated Ticos (as Costa Ricans are known) and you can see why down here they call it "Pura Vida" - pure life.

Cradle to the vast Incan Empire, the largest in pre-Colombian America, Peru's power and gold attracted the Spanish conquistadores who used it to fund their own vast empire in the Americas. As a result colonial gems like magnificent Cuzco were built on Incan foundations, making for a fascinating hybrid culture. Peru is peppered with Incan sites, but none so famous as the lost city of Machu Picchu, whose breathtaking image seems to grace every brochure and travel book. Peru has been blessed with natural gifts as well: a huge chunk of Amazon rainforest falls within its bounds, and visitors can hike through jungle, trek in the Andes, and surf the northern beaches all in the same week. Cap it off with Lake Titicaca, one of the highest lakes in the world, and you've only just begun to scratch the surface.
